ASTM A179 is the standard specification for seamless cold drawn mild steel heat exchanger and condenser tubes. These tubes are primarily used in heat transfer applications such as boilers, heat exchangers and superheaters.ASTM A179 specifications cover tubing with outside diameters from 1/8″ to 3″ and wall thicknesses from 0.015″ to 0.500″. This tubing is available in several grades, including Class A, B and C, with different chemical compositions and mechanical properties.
This tubing is manufactured by cold drawing hot rolled tubing through a die to reduce its diameter and wall thickness.
